ProMed were able to respond to a short-notice request to provide event first aid cover at Royal Victoria Docks in London as part of the Pokémon World Championships 2022.

A call came in to our 24/7 emergency operations centre on Tuesday evening from the on-site team. They had decided that they wanted the additional assurance of a dedicated medic based at their outdoor site. By Wednesday morning, our operations team had completed the paperwork to setup the new customer, and understand their event first aid needs. Soon after, our new client has set us up as a new supplier, and confirmed that they were happy to go ahead.
Despite the relatively short time from initial enquiry to allocating staff to the event, ProMed completed a resource assessment & cover proposal. This set out what we believed would be the required level of provision for the public attending, in line with The Purple Guide. We explained how we would deliver our services in a way that minimised the impact of Pokémon World Square on London Ambulance NHS Trust and other local urgent & emergency care NHS facilities.
Pokémon fans cared for by ProMed

On Thursday morning, our Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) arrived on site, fully equipped for any eventuality at Pokémon World Square. As standard, ProMed will provide an automated external defibrillator (AED), an oxygen cylinder bag with masks & resuscitation equipment suitable for both adult & paediatric patients, and a first aid bag with the usual dressings/bandages/etc as well as a full observations kit. In addition, they also had a mixed analgesic gas cylinder bag which contains the usual bite pieces, as well as various sizes of masks. ProMed also provided a multiparameter (cardiac) monitor, powered suction unit, folding stretcher, orthopaedic (scoop) stretcher with head blocks & straps, carry chair and box (limb) splints.
The outdoor space, which also included a large cinema screen for showing a Pokémon movie on Friday evening, was part of the overall Pokémon World Championships 2022, taking place at ExCeL London. Therefore, ProMed sought to work closely with Meditech Medical Services, the permanent medical provider to the conference centre in Docklands.
Over the 3-day event, ProMed staff regularly patrolled Pokémon World Square and the surrounding outdoor space, including the queuing areas. ProMed actively reassured customers that trained help & assistance was available should they need it.
