ProTrainings‘ Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 (VTQ) course gives you the skills, knowledge and understanding in the provision of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and of the safe use and management of an Automated External Defibrillator.

If you work in the care sector – this qualification will provide you with the practical skills and underpinning knowledge to do so safely. Examples roles are doctor, nurse, biomedical scientist, physiotherapist, firefighter, first aider, care worker & medical worker.

Our BLS & AED course fulfils the competences set out in the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills framework at descriptor level A.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to demonstrate an understanding of the BLS/AED algorithm and the responsibilities and treatment principles of AED use, as well as showing that you can practically provide effective emergency lifesaving first aid care using an AED.

Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 qualfication details

This qualification contains 1 mandatory units with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 5 hours. This is made up of 1 Guided Learning Hours (GLH); the time your are being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a trainer/assessor. The additional 4 hours are what you will reasonably spend preparing & studying and towards assessment, directed (but not supervised) by a trainer/assessor.

The credit value for this qualification is 1 credits at level 2.

The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and comes with a Certified CPD Statement. This course comes with 5hrs of CPD, although the time to complete the course online may be less than this. Total course time includes 2 hours 51 minutes of video training as well as knowledge reviews, final test, remedial help and reviewing downloaded material.

Topics covered

On the Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 course, you’ll first learn Basic Life Support skills for Adult, Child and Infant as well as healthcare variations on infant CPR. The course includes Safety, precautions, initial assessment (the ABCDE approach to patient care), recovery position, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, compression-only CPR, handover and choking.

AED training is also included in the course. Learning AED skills is becoming more important with the increase in the numbers of units in the community and workplace. They are easy to use with a little training and make a real difference in the chance of survival to someone in cardiac arrest. If you have already completed any other first aid course you will understand the importance of the prompt use of an AED making this an ideal next course to take to develop your skills.

Assessment

You must complete all assessments & skills tests in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification.

Assessment of performance is carried out on a 1:1 basis.

Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 (VTQ) certificate

You’ll receive your ProTrainings Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 (VTQ) e-certificate soon after your results have been submitted.

We’ll issue you with an interim ecertificate confirming what you have been assessed on to cover the time from being confirmed that you have met the requirement for the award until your certificate is issued. You can show this to employers pending the certificate from the awarding body.

Requalification

Your Basic Life Support and AED for Healthcare Professionals Level 2 (VTQ) certificate is valid for 1 years. This is dated when you achieve the final unit.

You need to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
